Dr. Kogen,
I have intended to send you this note for a while now. Five weeks ago
today was our son Jonah's Bris. You came highly recommended to us from
close friends. However, that did little to quell my apprehension and
concern over the whole process. As a first time father, I was flooded
with so many emotions, and while intellectually I understood why I was
having my son circumcised, emotionally I was still unsure.
When I spoke with you on the phone a week before the Bris, you helped to
take the edge off. You described the ceremony and the medical procedure
at length. You answered all of my questions and never seemed to be in a
rush to get off of the phone. I have to admit that did surprise me.
The day of the Bris, I was blown away with your meticulous attention to
every detail. You even made sure that the flowers were in the right
place so that our family photos looked great. You made everyone feel
comfortable and happy. You stressed the importance of love and family
and tradition. You made us laugh and cry.
The procedure was quick, precise and flawless. I am sure that it hurt
me more than it hurt Jonah.
You spent more time with us than I could have ever expected. In detail
you explained what we should expect over the next 10 days and how to
treat the area.
Lastly, your follow-up has been amazing. You have called us several
times just to check in and you returned our few calls with urgency and
sensitivity, even as silly as I am sure they were.
There aren't many MD's out there like you. Your personal care and
genuine concern for us has been such a refreshing experience.
Gratefully Yours,
Barry Polan
